Tau the musical

A musical rendition of the number Tau

Vectors!

I'm hungry for some Green Bean Matherole! Maybe watch some Despicable Me too! Since you know, it has both direction and magnitude...

Getting help outside of the classroom with Partrick!

Have you ever been stuck on a problem or concept late into the evening? There is no one to help you, your parents don't know what you are rambling about, your friends are asleep, and you are just sitting there lost. Find some help online! Ask Patrick, he has a huge amount of free and easy to understand videos on topics from middle school to calculus! He is the only reason I passed Calculus 3!

Multiples with Pokemon

In the Pokemon games, your creature grows each time it beats another pokemon.  You can get some number of effort values from the victory.  So if you have a pikachu and it beats a charmander, you will get 2 attack effort values or EVs.  You can get up to 252 EVs before your pokemon is fully grown. How many charmanders will you need to defeat?

Now imagine your pikachu is infected with a virus that doubles her growth rate. How many charmanders will you need to defeat now?

Lucky for many trainers, the developers of Pokemon, Game Freak, also developed tools pokemon can hold that quadruple their growth rate when being held. If your pikachu holds this item and has the growth virus, how many charmanders would you then need to defeat?

Pi vs. Tau

Mathematics is not a stagnant field of study. Many battles are fought over definitions and proofs of the concepts. Pi is one such concept which has been used since the days of Ancient Greece.  However, there is another way, one that is less confusing when working with radians and trigonomitry.

See what Vi Hart has to say: Pi is (still) Wrong

What do you think?

Pythagorean Theorm

There are an astounding number of proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem.

Here is one: Origami Proof

Here is another by James Garfield, that's right, he was one of the Presidents of the United States: Garfield's Proof

How are they similar? How are they different?
